A fisherman's hands repairing his net after a morning off the coast of eastern Sicily near Catania. The village is Aci Trezza, scene of Giovanni Verga's great novel "Il malvoglia" about the travails of a Aci Trezza fishing family in the late 1890s. Visconti made a film, La terra trema, from the book set in 1947. Aci Trezza is a remarkable village full of working fishermen. I will return to it in March.
